Cathedral of St. John and St. Finbar (View 1) - Charleston, SC, 1865
Hi,
I searched around, but didn't really find a good thread to add this comment to. I just was reading a scholarly article about the ancient Mayans, and it was mentioning that for traders/travelers, looking from the top of their tall stone buildings that were taller than the surrounding trees allowed them to see much further than the common people who always lived at ground level. The article says the travelers could use this limited access information to better plan their routes, etc etc

It occurred to me that the same thing could be the case with any kind of tower or spire. Those people who were in charge of building structures like that would have the most consistent access to these elevated views. Just wanted to add that to the store of knowledge.
