    Your finds remind me of vel124's Russian-language post about the shape and size of the structures beneath 'classical' buildings. The images give you an idea of the size and different look of the substructures compared to what was built on top of them.

    You're right to flag Google Earth as possibly an artist's conception. As evidence goes it is a form of visual hearsay. However, if for a while you treat it as genuine and use it to consider other possible models of our domain - and our domain's past - you may find other oddities in our past...

You can see several different shapes that are conventionally perceived as natural being presented...
