akg-images was founded in November 1945 by German art collector and journalist Wilfried Göpel under the name “Archiv für Kunst und Geschichte” – Archive for Art and History.
  • Today our archive comprises well over ten million images, which are licensed for editorial and non-editorial projects around the world from our three offices in London, Berlin and Paris. akg-images remains a family-run business to this day.

We specialise in history, fine art and photography, with well over ten million images, three million of which are online.
  • Our collection continues to grow every day, with new acquisitions being sourced and added to the archive and website daily.
  • Images are carefully selected for their historical and cultural importance and are thoroughly keyworded and captioned.
  • We cover the cultural history of the world from prehistory to now.
